I'm traveling to Israel for the first time in March.  I'm in the wine biz in NYC (Italy is my beat.)  But I've had one or two rather intriguing Israeli wines, such as Domaine du Castel.  Wow, great stuff.

Has anyone got suggestions for wineries to visit?  I'm not one for museums and I couldn't care less about Jesus and all that mishigoss, even though I am Christian.  Eilat and wine are what attract me.  I'll let my friend do Masada and the de rigueur Jewish things.  Feh.  Give me the tastes of today, minus the, you know, bombs and stuff.

Thanks for the comments, Terry!

I'm actually leaving for Israel tomorrow afternoon with plans to visit many wineries myself, all of which I'll report on via the blog.

Hopefully, you'll find some wineries to check out!

Richard

Knowing where to go, you will surely enjoy some great wines in Israel!

As a Domaine du Castel lover, you are very likly to appriciate wineries like" Chatau- Golan" and "Somek"- both wineries offer skillfully made wines with the complexilty and elegance of Domaine du Castel.

Being an Italian wine fan, you should try the "Flam" winery wines- professionally made with easy to recognize Italian inspiration. Another Israeli winery with "strong Italian roots" is "La Terra Promessa" making quite unusual wines though not tipically Italians.

Have a great vacation. Will be glad to help.

Cheers

I was directed to your site as a possible way to purchase Somek Estate wines.  I have sent 3 emails from the site--all have returned.  Any helpful tips?  We have visited Somek Estates winery and are good friends with Barak's father.  Exciting to see them do some export!

Hi,

I've just visited (again) Somek Estate winery in Zichron Yaakov last week and I can easily understand your excitement!

I know that the first shipment of Somek wines is already being prepared for exporting and marketing in the U. S. by IWD.  I believe you will be able to get the wines soon.

I think the best thing for you to to is to contact Richard at: shaffer.richard@gmail.com and make sure he will let you know as soon as the wines are available.

Hope I've been helpful.

Tamir
